 Apollo 13 (1995)
IMDB rating: 7.50
Plot: It had been less than a year since man first walked on the Moon, but as far as the American public was concerned, Apollo 13 was just another “routine” space flight—until these words pierced the immense void of space: “Houston, we have a problem.” Stranded 205,000 miles from Earth in a crippled spacecraft, astronauts Jim Lovell, Fred Haise and Jack Swigert fight a desperate battle to survive. Meanwhile, at Mission Control, astronaut Ken Mattingly, flight director Gene Kranz and a heroic ground crew race against time—and the odds—to bring them home.

Why do people keep badmouthing Texans for being so conservative and ignorant?
You would be surprised how tolerant and sophisticated. After all, we do have NASA in Houston. Astronauts, astrophysicists, and aeronautical engineers are some of the most brilliant people on earth. When is the last time anyone from Back East came up with the calculations to save the Apollo 13? All they did was broadcast it on TV in New York. My hometown is also the Earth’s most air-conditioned city and the energy capital of the world. FYI, George W. Bush was from New England originally, and he went to Yale, so he must be pretty darn smart. I just graduated from Texas State University where LBJ went to school. That man did more for minorities than any other President in the entire history of this country (including JFK from Massachusetts.) He was notorious for battling the KKK. Let us not forget that he was the one who broke the color, ended dejure segregation, and launched the Great Society which spawned affirmative action. Barbara Jordan, another liberal activist, also went to Texas State. T. Boone Pickens, another Texan is trying diligently more than anyone else to make America switch to wind energy. My state surpassed California as the number one producer of any state in the Union. They do not wish to do that in Massachusetts because Teddy Kennedy never wanted to open that can of worms. The locals there did not want it to obstruct their precious view. Dan Rather, Brent Spiner, and Dennis Quaid are all from Houston, and none of them are stupid. Neither was Patrick Swayze nor is Dr. Phil McGraw. Alas, the new mayor of my hometown Annise Parker is the first openly gay mayor of any major city in the United States and she is a Democrat. Does everyone still think we are all ultraconservative and ignorant?
Lord of War: You have obviously never been to Austin before.
Pab: Our Governor is a dirtbag and FYI John McCain just barely won the electoral vote for Texas by a narrow margin. Houston went blue.
Actually the coast of Texas - Austin and San Antonio are pretty Liberal . And the people generally are really intelligent and nice .

You guys love Bush, that says all i need to know about you intelligence. Also, stop sleeping with your cousins & watching so much Nascar

People do that because they don’t know you : )
I know a couple of people from Texas that are pretty cool

If that’s true, why are test scores in the bottom 10%?
And why did you governor turn down 700 MILLION educational dollars just because he doesn’t like Obama?
Why is it one of the states that nearly taught creationism in schools?
Don’t worry, at least you’re not Kansas.

… you answered your own question

I is a Techson, and I dunno wut you folk r talkin’ ’bout.
(Seriously….although I am now in Texas, I grew up traveling a lot of different places as a military brat and my mother once said something to me that I thought was very wise…..
"There are sophisticated and unsophisticated people from everywhere. So don’t stereotype."
That voice in my head has always served me well.)
And, oh yeah, if I may make an inference here….thanks for the compliment, Kelly!

There are people fro Texas who are foward thinking, but most are not
princejohn | Jan 15, 2010
As to the rest of the junk you typed I don’t know. The question you texans need to ask yourself is;
Ignorance is doing and not knowing, stupidity is doing and knowing. I guess you need to find out are you stupid or ignorant?
Tanker | Jan 15, 2010
because 90% of it is ignorant and conservative
Destiny | Jan 15, 2010
People are jealous of Texans because Texans always brag on Texas and have a stronger bond to their state than do people of any other state.
